What to expect from a wine tasting in Barcelona?
Barcelona is famous for art museums, the beach and obviously its Mediterranean lifestyle. Did you know it also one of the best cities in Europe to explore Spanish wines? Whether you just discovered the beauty of wine or a seasoned wine enthusiast, a wine tasting in Barcelona is always a great activity to discover the country’s diverse flavours.
As a certified sommelier, I held many wine tastings in Barcelona for visitors, expats and locals. They are all impressed by the quality of the wines that Spain makes and the beautiful stories behind each bottle.
If you’re considering booking a wine tasting in Barcelona, here’s what to expect.
A Relaxed, personal wine experience in Barcelona
When you join our wine tasting in Barcelona, do not expect it to be super formal or using difficult terms (unless you want us too). Our tastings are designed to be a small social setting with friends, family, colleagues or even strangers. Don’t worry; you won’t be listening to me all the time, there is plenty of room for social conversation with other people. Look at our wine tasting as a fun time with good conversation and great wines.
We will introduce you to the wines we taste and tell something about the winemaker, the grape variety and regions. If you never tasted wine before, no worries, we will explain in 3 easy steps how to taste wine like a pro. After this tasting no wine list or wine shelf has secrets for you!
A beautiful location in Barcelona
We will receive you for the wine tasting in our beautiful location in Gracia, the vibrant heart of Barcelona. There is space up to 14 people and it is airconditioned. It is surrounded with bars and restaurants, so before or after the wine tasting you can go for a drink or a meal. During the wine tasting we will serve some small snacks like cheeses and meats.
It’s for everyone, no expertise needed
A wine tasting in Barcelona is for anyone who wants to have a good time and want to know more about wine. We like to add a theme to my tastings (for example Galician wines vs Catalonian wines). This way we can show you the difference between wines and the reasons why they differ. You will learn as you go without being overwhelmed with information.
We will talk about aromas, acidity and tannins (terms you might have heard before) but always in everyday language. You will leave with a better understanding of what you like and why.
Spanish wines you won’t find at home
One of the best parts of tasting wine in Barcelona is discovering local bottles from Spain. Our tastings typically include 5 wines, from different regions in Spain (depending on the theme of the wine tasting).
Possible themes:
- Catalonian wines
- Oxidation; friend or foe?
- Sparkling wines (all Spanish or Spain vs France)
- Different types of Garnacha throughout Spain
- Wine and cheese tasting
- And many more options
We love to take you on a journey to showcase diversity: different regions, styles, and winemaking techniques all explained in a way that is easy to enjoy and remember.
